Traditional logic has explained sexual orientation as simply straight or gay, with some consideration that people may be bisexual. Research into this topic has shown that sexual orientation is really not a category, but a continuum. This continuum is often referred to as the Kinsey Scale. This scale supports the idea that people who identify as heterosexual might still have some level of homosexual interest or experiences.

The Kinsey Scale was groundbreaking because it acknowledged that sexual orientation is not a binary concept but rather exists on a continuum. It highlighted that many people might have varying degrees of heterosexual and homosexual experiences and attractions throughout their lives.
