A CASOMB CERTIFIED PROGRAM
Scion Counseling is certified by the California Sex Offender Management Board (CASOMB) to provide evidence-based Sex Offender Treatment for individuals with sexual offending behaviors. Our program is designed primarily for pretrial clients who want to address these behaviors proactively, before sentencing. Most of the individuals we work with are considered low risk, though we review other offenses on a case-by-case basis.
Sex Offender Treatment is not just about meeting a court requirement. It is about taking responsibility, understanding the behavior, and reducing the risk of it happening again. The work can be uncomfortable at times, but meaningful change requires honesty and consistency.
The program includes weekly group therapy and monthly individual sessions. Group therapy provides accountability and structured discussion around offending patterns, thinking errors, victim empathy, and relapse prevention. Individual sessions allow for more focused work on personal history, risk factors, and barriers to change.
Treatment typically lasts one year or longer. Length of participation depends on factors such as assessed risk, attendance, level of engagement, and openness in the process. Progress is measured by behavior and insight, not just time spent in the program.
We also work with clients who are on probation and maintain communication, when appropriate, with probation officers and attorneys to help ensure clients receive the support and structure they need.

Family Court Sex Offender Program
Our Family Court Program is built around one central goal: safe and meaningful family reunification. As part of our specialized sex offender treatment, we recognize that most individuals who enter this program are not just facing legal consequences — they are facing the possible loss of their family. That reality carries weight.
The program lasts between 6 and 12 months. During that time, participants attend a weekly group session and a monthly individual session. The work is consistent and structured. Within our sex offender treatment model, group sessions focus on accountability, understanding behavior, developing empathy, and learning concrete skills to prevent future harm. Individual sessions incorporate elements of sex offender therapy, allowing for a deeper exploration of personal history, risk factors, family dynamics, and specific barriers to reunification.
Change does not happen overnight. Rebuilding trust takes time, and progress is measured in actions, not words. Our sex offender treatment program is not about minimizing behavior or rushing the process. It is about doing the work necessary to create safety, stability, and the possibility of repair.
The goal is not just compliance with court requirements. Through structured sex offender treatment, the focus is on lasting behavioral change so that families, when appropriate, have the opportunity to move forward in a healthier and safer way.

Risk Assessment
Comprehensive assessment is a critical component of responsible sex offender treatment and supervision for individuals who have engaged in sexually harmful or illegal behavior. A thorough, evidence-based evaluation helps ensure that services are appropriately matched to each individual, with the goal of supporting community safety while avoiding unnecessary or excessive intervention.
As part of the assessment process, clients may complete specialized, research-supported tests designed to better understand patterns of interest and risk. The focus is on developing a balanced, individualized understanding of risk and treatment needs.
We evaluate both historical factors and current patterns of thinking, behavior, and overall stability that may influence risk. The goal is not to “prove” someone is or is not a risk, but to provide an objective, clinically sound assessment that can inform decision-making.
Findings from the assessment help guide sex offender treatment planning, monitor progress over time, and support professional communication with courts, attorneys, and other involved parties when appropriate.
These risk assessments are available for pretrial clients.

SEX ADDICTION AND SEXUAL OFFENDING
Sex addicts are definitely on a spectrum and there are many differences between individuals. However, if left untreated, sex addiction can always get worse. Many men report their addictions changing over time. Many sex addicts get their start by viewing online pornography. In the beginning, they were content to view mainstream pornography a few times a week. This pattern can become more frequent and create a strong interest in disturbing sexual content. In some cases, this interest can be focused on children and teens. Scion Counseling is equipped to work with everyone on the spectrum of sex addiction, including those who have been viewing illegal pornography or engaged in other sexual offending behavior.
YOUTH CAN BE SEX OFFENDERS
At Scion Counseling, our goal is to help address problematic sexual behaviors before those behaviors become illegal, but that is not always possible. If your child is struggling with sexual behaviors, please don't wait to get help. If your child is already in legal jeopardy due to their sexual behaviors then please know that it is not too late to get help. Recent research shows that youth should not be taken out of their homes or communities unless there is no other choice. Many parents consider sending their children to wilderness programs to help deal with these problems. Often, these programs are physically and emotionally abusive to youth. Also, taking youth out of their families and communities removes their social support, which is necessary for them to make positive changes. Please know that that this strategy of sending teenagers somewhere to "get fixed" tends to cause more damage than it ever helps. Scion Counseling offers a counseling experience where teens can remain in their families, schools and communities while they get the treatment that they need.
